Homemade Applesauce

Every few months I decide that I’m going to start eating healthy. The problem is, I have a mad sweet tooth that prompts me to eat very bad things, so I’ve been trying to stick to fruit. I’ve never been a big applesauce person, but this is nothing like that crap that comes in a little plastic cup.  It’s basically the delicious gooey filling of apple pie, and I topped it with vanilla ice cream. I didn’t say it’s 100 calories people, but look you can limit your portion size by eating it out of your hollowed apple! I got the applesauce recipe from Keep it Sweet.

If you want to serve your applesauce like this, you’ll need to buy a few large apples. I bought two Honeycrisp and four Gala.

Step 1: Cut the top off your large apples and hollow out the inside. You have to do this very gently or you’ll break the apple. Rinse out the apple and squirt a little lemon juice inside to keep it fresh while you’re preparing the applesauce.

Step 2: Peel and core the rest of your apples and then follow this recipe.

When you’re all done it should look like this:

Step 3: Next, put a few scoops of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt into your hollowed apple and then top it with the warm apple filling. Garnish with a Cinnamon stick!
